Position Summary: Zachry is currently seeking Industrial Boilermaker Mechanic and Tube Welder for work at the SRP/NGS project in Page, AZ. The positions will consist of assembly, analyzes for defects, and repairs boilers, tanks, vats and pressure vessels, boiler auxiliaries and ancillaries according to blueprints specifications, using power tools and hand tools.  

Position Responsibilities:

  • Repair boilers in field by unbolting or flame cutting defective sections or tubes, straightening plates using torch or jacks, installing new tubes, fitting and welding new sections and replacing worn lugs on bolts

  • Inspect and repair all components of boiler systems and associated mechanical equipment

  • Follow direction from Supervisor

  • Other duties as assigned

    Position Responsibilities:

  • Layout, position, align, cut, assemble and fit metal components together in various body positions and in various places

  • Observe and recognize problems during the welding process in order to adjust speed, voltage, amperage, or feed of the rod

  • Ignite torches or start power supplies and strike arcs by touching electrodes to metals being welded

  • Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding

  • Detect faulty operation or equipment or defective materials and notify supervisors

  • Monitor the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material

  • Examine and recognize defects

  • Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade

  • Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers

  • Ability to read and interpret prints and plans

  • Follows direction from supervisor

  • Must pass Stainless and Carbon Steel weld test or have current Zachry certs

  • Other duties as assigned

     

    WELD TEST:

  • 2" SS & 2" CS (tig & stick cap)

  • Knowledge and experience with hand tools and power tools

  • Must understand how to read and interpret technical manuals in order to determine work procedures

Reporting to this position:  No direct reports  

Physical demands and work environment: 

  • Physical demands:  Employee will be required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting and lifting.  Will talk and hear to communicate.  Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull:  objects, materials, controls and tools.  May be required to lift, carry and move heavy objects.  Will occasionally work at heights, climb ladders and stairways and work off of platforms.  Will use vision abilities to focus, see short and long distances, colors, depth perception and peripheral vision.  Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves and steel-toe boots.  Must be able to wear a respirator as needed.
     
  • Work environment:  Will work in all weather conditions ranging from warm/hot – cool/cold.  Occasional rain.  Will work at different elevations. Noise levels will be moderate to high.  Job site will contain light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment and tools.  Possibly people standing, walking, sitting, signaling and talking.  Bells, whistles and alarms.
