Zachry Group has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to work in our Charlotte Engineering Center. We are seeking engineers with fossil power plant design experience. 


Develop P&IDs for power plant systems including

  • material handling
  • high energy piping systems
  • cooling water
  • potable water
  • fire water
  • wastewater
  • compressed gases

Develop sizing calculations, specifications, and review design drawings for

  • Pipe material selection and sizing
  • Pipe Supports
  • Equipment specifications including pumps, valves, and tanks

Perform pipe stress analysis for high temperature piping systems

Work closely with designers and drafters to develop project 3D models and design drawings.

Optimize designs for safe construction and plant operations.

Address client, supplier, and construction requests, both in the office and the field.


Job Requirements

  • BS in mechanical engineering
  • PE license preferred
  • Occasional travel to project sites for field support and design meetings
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong collaboration and leadership skills

Preferred Experience

Pipe Stress Analysis using Caesar II software

Experience with ASME B31.1 and B31.3 piping codes

Design experience with power plant systems and equipment including P&ID development, equipment specification and bid review, and pipe isometric reviews.

Develop sizing calculations, specifications, and review design drawings for

  • pumps
  • high energy piping and valves
  • water/wastewater treatment equipment
