The Field Services Manager will be a strategic and confident leader who demonstrates competency and proficiency in developing effective teams by holding others accountable; applying a variety of knowledge and skill sets to solve problems and appropriately/ constructively responds/ engages employees and or customers.  He or she will establish objectives and plans to improve the efficiency, quality and reliability of field service operations for an established yet growing business line.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of substation maintenance, repair, testing and commissioning operations, as well as a unique suite of specialty high voltage services.

  • Establish all technical knowledge, procedures and qualified employees to allow the group to self-perform all aspects of substation maintenance and repair and high voltage services for clients.

  • Coordinate with external engineering and design resources as needed to meet customers’ needs

  • Coordinate third party or subcontracted services as needed to complete job scope

  • Interface with customer’s technical and engineering groups to understand requirements and needs for substation maintenance and repair

  • Understand the requirements of the customer (internal/external) and quality work scope.

  • Use and maintain schedules to measure time and production to meet requirements.

  • Responsible for monitoring, assessing, and reporting the performance of transmission and distribution substation to existing and future Utility and Industrial Customers.

  • Maintain a professional appearance and positive relationships with customers, contractors, suppliers and other employees.

  • Promote and comply with all Company policies and procedures. 

  • Establish and implement business objectives, strategies, and plans.

  • Manage and allocate financial and employee resources.

  • Responsible for establishment and adherence to department budget.

  • Perform managerial functions, such as preparing proposals, budgets, labor costs and report writing.

  • Develop performance improvement plans that outline means to close performance gaps.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • AAS or other technical degree related to Electric Power Technology, Electrical Lineman, Electrical Transmission Systems, Substation and Relay Technology, Electrical Engineering or equivalent combination of professional certifications.

  • Four year college degree - Texas professional engineering or business degree preferred.

  • Bachelor’s Degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience in the electric utility or a related industry will be considered.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication/interpersonal skills.

Work Environment:

The employee will need to have excellent time management skills and attention to detail.  They will need to be computer proficient, including Microsoft Office Suite.  The employee will need to demonstrate management, administrative, supervisory and leadership skills in order to motivate and influence employees as well as conduct business with work employees while understanding that information acquired is this position is confidential and must be treated as such in all communications both external & internal.

  • Minimum 15 years' experience in the substation/high voltage field or a combination of substation/high voltage professional training and field experience equaling 15 year.

  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen, health screen, and criminal background check.

  • Functional knowledge of electrical system construction, fabrication, operation, maintenance testing and commissioning practices.

  • Allocation of resources and maintaining optimum resource levels.

  • Schedule and workload forecasting.

  • Monitoring project cost and schedules.

  • Participate in activities related to the planning, design, building, maintenance, switching and control of the electrical distribution and transmission systems.

  • Manage schedules and complete the annual substation maintenance plan and/or capital work.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

  • Ability to work effectively with executive, management, and staff level employees with varying educational and professional background using verbal and written communication.

  • Must be able to read electrical system drawings, schematics and technical drawings.

  • Understand NERC, NEC, IEEE, IEC and applicable local codes and regulations.

  • Problem solver oriented & thinks outside the box.
